United Airlines will begin weekly service to Havana from Bush Intercontinental Airport on Dec. 3. Tickets went on sale Thursday, September 1.
“I’m incredibly proud of all the dedicated aviation professionals here at United who are working hard to get our historic Cuba service ready for takeoff in November,” United CEO Oscar Munoz said in a news release. “Today’s announcement reaffirms that these flights will ensure better choice, convenience and competition for all travelers on this important route.”
The Department of Transportation on Wednesday finalized its selection of eight U.S. airlines to begin scheduled flights to Havana as early as this fall.
Airlines receiving the Havana routes are Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines. The flights will provide service to Havana from Atlanta; Charlotte, N.C.; Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, Fla.; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; Newark, N.J.; and New York.
On Wednesday, JetBlue flew the first scheduled U.S. commercial flight to the island in more than 50 years, traveling from Fort Lauderdale to Santa Clara.
