Since 1960s, commercial airlines have been unable to access Cuba due to the existing embargo. That’s about to change in a big way.
From 2010 to 2015, the number of charter flights from Florida to Cuba grew by nearly 136 percent. The renewed interest in and accessibility of Cuba travel has prompted multiple U.S. commercial carriers including American Airlines, Delta and Jet Blue to apply for permission with the Department of Transportation to offer air service to Cuba.
The Havana Consulting Group estimates that number of U.S. commercial flights to Cuba in 2017 could exceed 3,000, or 68 percent of the market. Not only will this be a game changer with regard to how incentive groups get to Cuba, it will dramatically reduce the cost per ticket. Flights currently priced in excess of $480 per ticket are projected to drop to as low as $150 per ticket when choosing a commercial carrier.
